about

This one was inspired by bands like Ivy and The La’s. We still occasionally play it if we’re doing an acoustic set. It was the result of a few different ideas stuck together, I think the verse was written back in the mid-90s and we came up with the rest of it much later. We set out to deliberately make the lyrics as obtuse as we could. December 17th was the date Mike met his wife.

lyrics

I'd seen her once in a while, spoken to her, she asked me for change
Feels like the laundromat, coffee cup on an old magazine
I've been thinking everything's come easily
I've been thinking everything's gone right for me

I was coming to meet you, now you're going, it's so hard to see you
I was wanting to meet you, now I'm going, it's so hard to see you

I'd catch her now and again, another line, another to myself
Seen her go into the station, movie ticket, a new one to see
I've been thinking everything's come easily
I've been thinking everything's gone right for me

I was coming to meet you, now you're going, it's so hard to see you
I was wanting to meet you, now I'm going, it's so hard to see you
I've been thinking everything's come easily
I've been thinking everything's gone right for me

I was coming to meet you, now you're going, it's so hard to see you
I was wanting to meet you, now I'm going, it's so hard to see you
